'Are you feeling lost, hopeless & depressed? Hear how Anupriya Kapur used Running to Fight Postpartum Depression. One of the most common Mental Health Disorders in India is Depression. According to a 2015 World Health Organization report titled ‘Depression and Other Common Mental Disorders — Global Health Estimates’ over five crore Indians suffered from depression, a major contributor to global suicides which occurred mainly in low- and middle-income countries like India. Battling a kind of depression which happens to every 5th pregnant woman, called postpartum depression, Anupriya Kapur is a source of motivation for all those facing depression. In this Josh Talks, Anupriya gives depression motivation. She starts her story about how stress and anxiety from depression forced her into hurting her son. Unable to recognize the state of her mental health, the symptoms of depression, none of her friends and family were aware of the postpartum depression she was suffering from and felt that it was not possible for her to have depression. But the stress and anxiety that Anupriya went through, thoughts of anger, and being unable to control herself, made her realize that something was not right. Anupriya wanted to cure depression. She often had thoughts of running away from her life. Looking down from her balcony, she had often contemplated suicide. But she decided to turn her life around, cure depression, and lead a happy life. Giving away self-help tips and how she cured depression, Anupriya will help you how to deal with depression, fight depression and give depression motivation. Anupriya shares her journey of how she resorted to running as a stress-buster activity in her life. The runs, which started as a method to escape from life, turned into her favorite activity. She started looking forward to a run every day to cope with the depression. Anupriya then decided to share her journey of coping with depression and started writing a personal lifestyle blog called https://momontherun.in/. A single mom by choice, Anupriya’s son is 10 years old. She has successfully cured depression. She has helped many others suffering from depression, those unaware of postpartum depression to become aware of it. She started running when her son was two and initially did it just to get out for an hour or so. What started as an escape route gradually became a healthy addiction. Over the last six years, Anupriya has participated in 2 full marathons, several half marathons and 10 km, including the Bengaluru marathon. In 2015, Anupriya also started blogging, which was a means by which she could help other women like herself who are grappling with post-partum depression. Mothers today need to understand that they don’t have control over post-partum depression. It is equally important for society to understand that post-partum depression is a serious, real issue. The World Health Organisation reports that women are more susceptible to depression and anxiety than men. It estimates that nearly 73 million women worldwide suffer from one major depressive episode per year. Mental disorders following childbirth, like post-natal depression, affect 13 percent of women within a year of delivery. These may seem like only numbers and statistics, but a closer look at our own society reveals how many new mothers we know are suffering silently with post-partum depression, & it can be treated with therapy & medication.
